Description:
Liquid Light could be a cyberspace romance laced with self-reflection and childlike mindfulness about our collective futures. It also denotes flight from the madness. Did you ever feel that as small children we were duped ~ flights of fancy made wonderfully real by the fairy tales and myths that were fed us? Perhaps these stories repeat through generations, because the hope remains that there might bear "the one" to emulate those grand, free spirits and undefeated heroes. Beginning sparsely, with Xyra on acoustic-electric guitar, the song builds to a fury of emotion. Electric guitars and violins battle unseen forces. Let the momentum carry you! Lyrics: Liquid Light © 2001/2004, Xyra Harper-Cann Liquid light, mine tonight Dangerous liaison Caught in the Web Lost in the thought Of fateful endeavor Chorus - A fair warning, lost at sea In the silver sea of time A fair warning, for you and me We must take flight Trees of light, time of year When all wise mammals sleep Sleep, to find spring in mind Their dreaming: deep Repeat Chorus: A fair warning, lost at sea In the silver sea of time A fair warning, for you and me We must take flight Liquid light, mine tonight Beauty is my downfall Past is here, always with me Catapult me, onward! Repeat Chorus: A fair warning, lost at sea In the silver sea of time A fair warning, for you and me We must take flight Peter Pan - Never, Never Land Where anything is possible Speak to me, as when a child We can learn to fly! Repeat Chorus: A fair warning, lost at sea In the silver sea of time A fair warning, for you and me We must take flight |

| 7. | We Wait | Play | We Wait
Description:
The forest stands as tall friends, encircling and protecting the lonely soul(s) waiting for a time to act - a clue, a sign. Mystery abounds - yes, and struggle. Wisdom is always there for the knowing. Seeing past delusion seems the challenge for us all. -:- Mediaeval percussion and organ notes open on to Xyra’s remarkable vocals. The impetus builds to a densely compelling, evocative sound laden tastefully with wonderful electric guitar riffs akin to Gilmore or Page. -:- The message has meaning. Lyrics: We Wait © 1996/2004 ~ Xyra Harper-Cann How long does the road stretch before us? How long must we dwell in darkness? I stand in the breadth of the forest I wait for the light, at the end of night Chorus: And I wait . . . And I wait . . . And I wait . . . for the light at the end of night And I wait . . . Visions of another time stand before us And we are forced to remember why Why we have returned to this world of delusion And we wait for the light at the end of night Chorus: And we wait . . . And we wait . . . And we wait . . . for the light at the end of night And we wait . . . Whose mask are you wearing? Can’t be your own Whose mask are you wearing? Can’t be your own Whose mask are you wearing? Can’t be your own . . . Can’t be your own Chorus: And we wait . . . And we wait . . . And we wait . . . for the light at the end of night And we wait . . . |

Through The Dark Glass Shining
XYRA: Through The Dark Glass Shining
by Michael Macey
Xyra has made an epic sounding record with Through The Dark Glass Shining. Prog rock meets mystical siren. With a voice that’s a cross between Patti Smith and Marianne Faithful, it brings a mysterious quality to the production that helps transcend the somewhat cryptic quality of the lyrical content.
Xyra exudes a spirituality that is somewhere between here and there and she conveys that with lyrics like “Chaos in search of meaning, you hold me dear/Water’s edge in your direction, Ancient stair” from Chaos In Search Of Meaning and “Liquid light, mine tonight/Dangerous liaison, caught in the web/lost in the thought of fateful endeavor” from Liguid Light. Coupled with the melodies she weaves and that voice, in the context of the songs they make perfect sense. Lets just say that the lyrical content of Through The Dark Glass Shining is always entertaining, sometimes cryptic and certainly worth a listen.
Sweeping arrangements give the whole thing a very grand sound that at times seems to jump right out at you.
Xyra shows her knack for Adult Contemporary with a tune like Only, a radio ready song that would make a great single. It’s a catchy mid-tempo number that features some excellent guitar work from Jeff Spencer and a too short killer sax riff from Don Stapleson. The production on some of the songs borders on bombastic, it’s where I hear that prog rock connection, which actually sounds very good in an updated way.
The players, all very talented but too numerous to mention, back Xyra with a thick sound full of energy. Through The Dark Glass Shining is one of the more enigmatic released I’ve heard in a while. Don’t spend a lot of time trying to decipher, just listen and enjoy.

Before anyone had ever heard of 'Goth,' Xyra was a DJ on Georgetown University's radio station, where she favored the darker, artier, more theatrical side of rock. The northern Virginia resident's tastes may not have shifted since then, Mark Jenkins reports, but these days she makes her own music.
Xyra Harper's newest album is called "Through the Dark Glass Shining". Mark Jenkins also reviews music for Blender and The Washington Post.
